Cargoroo Electric Longtail Cargo Bike
Victoria is an increasingly bike friendly city and more people, just like you, are looking for options to get their family out of the car and out into nature. Our Cargoroo electric cargo bike is the perfect family e-cargo bike. After testing the market, lots of research and hands on experience we designed the Cargoroo as the ultimate cargo bike. Combining the best elements from some other e-cargo bikes and adding our own. One of the key and defining features of the Cargoroo is that it comes fully loaded with all the accessories you need to go biking with your kids. The price you see is actually the price you pay.
The Making of the Cargoroo
When we developed the Cargoroo we looked at what was available on the market, and what the best features for families were and combined them into the ultimate electric cargo bike. A big factor was price, it had to not only be great value, but also affordable. Because we found there were very few good options that weren’t $6,000 plus dollars and you still needed to buy accessories!
Safety at the Forefront
As we know from caravan ads the most important features are what keep your family safe. The biggest of which is simply the design of the bike and the frame. There are two main features of the overall design and frame that were imperative, the smaller rear wheel for a lower center of gravity and the step through design. It’s just basic physics. Traveling with a load closer to the ground then higher up is more stable, especially when that load is unpredictable children! Additionally it’s common knowledge that most kids don’t like being kicked in the face, and that it’s also more difficult to get on and off a heavily loaded bike, hence the easy, low step through. It’s actually the lowest step through of any longtail e-cargo bike we researched!
Another aspect of good safety, especially when biking with your children is confident braking power. So the obvious answer was a good quality hydraulic brake to offer worry and hassle free stopping power. Additionally, visibility is an important safety consideration, so we equipped the Cargoroo with big, bright integrated lights and a bright blue paint job to help you stand out.
Top Level Performance
Now that we had a solid, safe base for our Cargoroo, it was in need of some electrification. And it wasn’t too difficult to figure out what needed to be done. One feature we knew it would have from the start was dual batteries, and the reason was twofold. Firstly to give users excellent range and secondly so when they really needed to tap into the power and get around on the hills that they wouldn’t run out of power. And of course what’s an e-bike without a motor? It had to be a 500W so it would have the power to drive the bike uphill, even fully loaded, but what type of motor? We went with a rear hub geared drive motor, a hub motor to maintain a lower price point but also because they offer more assistance and allow for a throttle, and a geared drive to keep the weight down and for better torque on hills.
The competition is quick to over estimate the range of their similar style e-bikes. Often estimating 40km to 70km and more for a 14Ah battery! Based on their calculations the possible range of our dual 14.5Ah batteries would be 85km to 150km. But we understand that these fairy tale ideals and real life don’t exactly line up and that the actual range most of our customers get is lower then the fairy tale. Which is why we advertise a real life range of 60km to 100km or more per charge, because we believe in honesty and transparency with our customers.
A Comfortable All Day Ride
The Cargoroo also had to be comfortable enough for long hauls, dropping the kids off at school and then riding to work, grocery runs and after school activities, the list goes on. So we stepped a bit outside the mold of solid front forks and added a Suntour HCT suspension fork, with lockout in case you prefer a harder ride. And nice wide 2.4″ tires front and rear, both for a softer ride and better stability. Finally with a plush, comfortable saddle and an easy upright riding position, you’ll be able to spend longer in the saddle then ever before.

If you need a good scooter for commuting with extra oomph but don’t want to break the bank, then this is for you!
I bought one, and a week later my wife bought one as well. I have put almost 1k km on mine in the last month just going on adventures, 40 kph is plenty fast for the trails in Victoria, and has an average range of 40-45 km and still have anywhere from 20-25% charge remaining by the time I get home. Being able to fast charge with 2 separate Chargers is very convenient. All around I find this to be the best bang for your buck.
This scooter was an upgrade for my wife, replacing her Dualtron Eagle Pro, which also came from RTG.
We couldn't be happier with the staff and service, which are why we went back.
The scooter itself is a blast and seriously impressive tech, especially considering the modest price. Excellent value and my wife is having a blast on it.

We’ve owned are cargoroo for 3 years now and it’s been great. Sold the second car. Kids were 6 and 8; now 9 and 11) still love going on it. I’d say grade 5 will be the last year I can get my older guy on it. Novelty hasn’t warm off for me though! The price was very reasonable compared to some of the other models on the market twice the price. They do a good comparison to a rad power bike on their website and RTG seems better value. Disk brakes, shox, comfy seet, all the bells and whistles. The fact you can walk into the store if you have an issue was big for me (compared to a long distance order). And the beauty was that it came assembled unlike a rad bike. The two batteries is massive too. Zero range anxiety and we seem to charge only once every week or two. If an e-bike only had one battery,I could see myself coming home and wanting to immediately charge it up in case for some reason the next ride was a long one. But we don’t get this anxiety because we always seem to have at least one battery full so if a ride ends up being a long one, boom, we got a battery all ready. RTG has been great to deal with. Got a flat once (tire blew) and we brought it in the next day and was fixed in an hour. Different levels of assist and we tend to always be at the highest so top speed with two kids on a flat road is 36/kmh and because we are always on top speed, and therefore depleting battery faster, we get 25kms per battery.
I wouldn’t dare ride with two kids without some electric assist as bike is solid. Also, when storing it it will need to roll into flat area or up one step max. My wife is 5’3 and has no problems with it. I did hear a complaint from a lady once who was petite that said it was too heavy for her. Overall, very pleased with bike. I feel like value even used in a year will still be high. And the benefits of being out and about in the fresh air, saving gas, spending quality time with family, doing a small part for the environment, and just getting out in nature is priceless. Zipping around standing up with the e-throttle, you feel like a giant kid out there! Whether it’s an RTG bike or another E-bike, you need to get one. You won’t be disappointed. New location in Royal Oak was nice. Great to ride along Lochside trail to get there!

This was a huge step up from my previous E-bike (Jetson Bolt Pro). Its a very smooth ride, and has enough power to keep me moving. I have the expanded battery, and I estimate that going full speed I can get around 60km, (20km is roughly 1/5 bars of power). With pedaling at a slower speed I suspect I could probably get anywhere on the island as unless I am going uphill it sits between 15-30 watts.
I plan to add a GPS Tracker, and a seat post Shock upgrade (I'm a fairly heavy person and the seats springs are not quite enough, its comfy but I find myself bottoming out on it).
Everything about the bike is basically perfect so Its probably easier if I mention the things I disliked.
The first quirk (Which I was aware of at the time of purchase), because the battery has a key that cuts off the power fully, the display clock cannot keep time.
The second quirk, is the handlebar is very curved. This makes it a bit of a challenge to attach handle bar accessories.
Finally the third is related to the headlight and brake light. I find that these lights just are not powerful enough, I would want about 30-50% more brightness out of the front headlight, and at least double the rear light. On a side note I am not a huge fan of the single screw headlight mounts (Although the one on this bike feels tight enough, I have found that overtime they get looser and the light will not stay in position).
All in all, The bike is amazing but be prepared to purchase a better headlight, and brake light.
This bike is truly amazing. The ride is smooth with its incredible suspension. The twist throttle is easy to operate and the motor packs a punch. This bike is a joy to ride in all weathers. Looking for something a little different, I couldn’t recommend this bike enough, and it’s certainly an eye catcher.
